Snowing in August!
The last few nights have had great hatches of White Flies, and the fish are active.
Hoppers are getting good size to them and still a few Stone Flies around.
Water temperature is in good shape for this time of year, which means the fish are in good shape. Water is a little low and clear.
White Flies are great summer fishing so book your trips soon

Carl Ackerman with a nice Smallmouth taken on tan conehead Sculpin pattern and another nice Brown taken on a Hex.
With water levels up, slightly discolored and temperatures holding as well as can be expected, the river and trout are in good shape for this time of year. Fish early and late, and avoid places where the water temperture reaches 70.
Cahills and large Stonefly patterns are the ones to have in your vest in the evenings, and Stonefly, Skunks, and Stimulator patterns used as an indicator with a nymph dropper work well during the day.
Friday the 18th we had a good Hex emergence and spinner fall that lasted till 12:30 am, and managed to catch one good Brown and fished to another but could not get a good drift from where I was in a float tube.
The weather has really done a number on this hatch this year, only when we get a break in the weather, and the river bottom warms again will I know if this hatch is done for the season.

The last few nights have had just the right amount of Hex to get in an hour or two of fishing, if you have some good fish marked, or set up on a good feeding lane.
Isonychia and large Stone Flies are still the thing to do in the evenings while waiting for the Hex to spin.
Pictured are Richard Felber and his son enjoying Independence Day fishing Isonychia while waiting for the Hex spinner fall and a few good browns from the 5th.

Heavy rain, high winds, cool evening temperatures and fog have slowed the Hex down for the last few days. The River is up some and fast so be careful, there are a few new sweepers in the water in some spots.
Isos, Cahills, Olives, and Stones are still the evening thing to do. If the Hex are a no show try a Big Stone, Mouse or Gurgler.
Pictured is John with another brown over 20". Be sure to check out our new rates for Guided Float trips!

Hex are moving up the river and have been coming off Mio Pond for a couple of days now. A mixture of Isonychia, Cahills, little dark Olives, and stone flies make for a fun evening of fishing till the Hex spin at dusk.
I have several openings so grab your gear and book a trip! Don't miss your chance at the brown of a lifetime!

Hex season has started! Cool rain and cold nights have put the Hex back a week or so. Thursday night we saw our first official (short) spinner fall above Alcona pond, with Friday producing a great spinner fall that went about 2 miles above 4001 bridge.
It's only going to get better for the next few weeks as they move system wide so book your trips now. I have several big fish marked, just need some clients to catch them. Don't know how long I can hold myself back as I move up river.
Brown Drakes, Isonychia and Stone Flies make for some good evening fishing while waiting for the Hex to spin, and several good fish are being caught on streamers in the slightly discolored water.

The new fly on the water this week is the Isonychia or Leadwing Coachman in size 10 or 12 2XL, Dark brown body and cream colored legs. Mixed in with Brown Drakes, March Browns, Sulphurs and large stone flys make for some great spinner falls in the evenings. We expect to see Hex any day now, so you better book a trip quick! Any day for the next 3 weeks could be the best fish you ever caught on this river.

The last 3 days have produced massive spinner falls of Hendricksons, Mahogays, and Sulphurs along with a few March Browns and Cahills tossed into the mix.
The big fish are up and active so it's time to fish late. A lot of good fish being taken in the 17" to 20" range. One broke hook, a broke line (line looped around reel handle) and too much slack in line have cost us 3 big fish!
Brown Drakes will make their appearance in the next week with Hex shortly after. Time to get out the 6 weights and give them a good checking over.
Pictured are a couple nice browns from this past week. I use a large net and it doesn't do this 20" brown justice in the picture.

It has been very cool and downright cold evenings have slowed the bug activity down this season. We are still finding big fish though.
For the week of the 19th look for Hendricksons, Mahoganies and Sulphurs with Stoneflies in the mix during the warmer part of the day.
Be prepared to stay late and have your fighting shorts on when the temperature stays above 50 degrees at dusk.
Pictured are a couple of big browns from this week.
